I have two Harrod lineages that I have been forever trying to sort out. One of them is Willam Harrod's b. 1764 line. Much of what I know comes from a manuscript that Hellyn Carrier sent me some years ago. I am wondering if anything new has been learned. Especially about William's father as that was rather speculative.

Keith,
I have attempted to continue Helynn's research and I can't find proof of William's father, but circumstantial records suggest that William's father was John Harrod Jr, brother of the James Harrod who settled Harrodstown (later Harrodsburg) Kentucky.

I intend to post my information here when I have time to sort it out.

I found that John Harrod Jr. was in western Virginia (later became Berkeley Co., WV) at the time that our William was born. John Jr's other brothers were in other areas at the time our William was born.

It appears that John Jr. returned to Pennsylvania after his father died (while our William was a boy).

If it's true that our William was born in Berkeley Co., WV, it appears that John Harrod Jr and Rachel Shepherd were his parents.

Why do you refuse to accept the placement of your William as son of John and Rachel Shepherd exactly where Susan atkins, Bernice Swainson and Kathryn Mason all rightfully placed him. I know Helynn Carrier refused to accept it for three reasons:
1. Susan Atkins said it.
2. The birth date differs from the Rachel Henton manuscript (as does my 5th great grandfather Thomas Harrod of Ross County, OH,the older brother of William.
3. a descendant surnamed Hazlewood of the William Herod in Columbus, IN, badgered her into placing his line there. When asked why he thought his William belonged there his final annoyed reply was "Where else would he go?" or some such (2001) The man did not stay on the phone long enough for me to tell him his William doesn't go there and why.
I think by now Keith, if it is cousin Keith Kingman, accepts this placement of William, his other line is still kind of floating in space, yet well documented for over a hundred years in two states.

Thank you for the comments.

I believe that "my" William is probably the son of John Harrod Jr. and Rachel Shepherd, but I haven't located any proof and the birth date in Rachel Henton's notebook contradicts the date of birth in his pension record.

I would prefer to have evidence before saying it is so. We already have way too much incorrect information floating around regarding these people. I tend to not make declarative statements unless I can prove it.

My current position is that it's a probability.
